Consistent with previous results, a strong minority of Canadians have already purchased or consumed non-alcoholic drinks, or are interested in trying out this type of beverage.

Consistent with results from earlier in the year, Canadian trial and interest in non-alcoholic beverages remains strong, with three-in-ten having already tried non-alcoholic beer, and two-in-ten each having purchased and consumed non-alcoholic wine or non-alcoholic spirits. Among those who haven’t tried these types of beverage before, there remains strong interest, with approximately three-in-ten interested in giving these types of beverages a go.

Across the country, purchases of non-alcoholic beer are relatively consistent, though marginally higher in Quebec. Interest in trial of these types of products is highest in BC and Quebec, compared with other parts of the country. By age, younger cohorts (including Gen Z, Millennials and Gen X) are more likely to have already purchased these types of products and are more interested in trying them out, with Boomers being the least likely to be interested or to have tried these products.

Results are from an online survey conducted in partnership between Narrative Research and the Logit Group. The survey was conducted between November 14 and 16, 2023 with 1,230 Canadians, 18 years of age or older from the Logit Group’s online Canadian Omnibus. Data were weighted based on the 2016 Census, by gender, age, and region to reflect actual population distribution, and data tables are available upon request.
