Insights from a Virtual Talk at Humber College

By Laura Franklin, Associate Vice-president, Project Management

As an alumnus of Humber College’s Research Analyst Postgraduate Program, it was a nostalgic experience to reconnect with the academic roots that shaped my journey into the world of research and project management. The occasion was marked by a virtual talk, a bridge between the past and the present, where I had the privilege of sharing insights with the current batch of aspiring research analysts, who were on the cusp of embarking on their internships.

Real-World Applications of Project Management in Research

The focus of my talk revolved around bridging the theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom with the practical intricacies of project management in the research industry. Drawing from personal experiences, I delved into the real-world applications of methodologies, emphasizing the dynamic nature of research projects and the need for adaptable management approaches. We explored questions such as “Is project management and planning overly burdensome, diverting time from research?” and “Does all technology contribute to enhanced project productivity?”.

Logit’s Innovation Team: Pioneering Efficiency in Project Management

One of the highlights of the discussion was the exploration of Logit’s innovation team and their impactful efforts to transform client projects as well as project management tasks. The fusion of technology and project management is at the heart of Logit’s endeavors. By shedding light on Logit’s innovation team, the talk aimed to inspire the next generation of research analysts to embrace technological advancements as integral tools in their arsenal.

The Culmination: Last Day of the Research Project Management Course

The virtual talk marked a poignant moment, as it coincided with the last day of the Research Project Management course for the current batch of students. Their journey through the program had equipped them with the theoretical foundations, and my talk aimed to instill a sense of anticipation and readiness for the hands-on experiences awaiting them during their upcoming internships in January.

As the students prepare to step into the dynamic world of research, armed with a blend of academic knowledge and insights from industry professionals, the hope is that they carry forward the torch of innovation, coupled with strong organization and communication skills. The last day of the course symbolized not just an end but a new beginning, where theory meets practice, and the realm of possibilities in research project management expands exponentially.
